What is Offsite SEO? Tips for Small Businesses

Offsite SEO involves building up a website’s ‘backlink profile’ and establishing your website as a credible, high-quality, and authoritative figure within the digital world. A backlink profile is the number of websites that point back to yours through links. This is important because it plays a key role in your domain rating which has a direct impact on whether or not your website is going to show up at the top of Google search results. To build your backlink profile, you need to earn backlinks from high-quality websites that are related to your industry. In this article, I will walk you through some simple and effective ways you can implement offsite SEO strategies for your business or organization.

Become a Guest Blogger

Guest blogging is a great strategy for link building when it comes to improving your offsite SEO. When you begin to research guest blogging opportunities, make sure the website you are guest posting on is relevant to your industry. When observing another website, be sure to consider the following:

1. Are the contents of this website something my target audience would be interested in?

2. Do I want to be associated with this website?

If the answer is no to either of those questions, then the website isn’t a great guest blogging opportunity. Move on with your search until you find a website or brand that aligns with yours. If you publish on low-quality and irrelevant websites, it could reflect poorly on your business.

Additionally, you should be selecting websites with high domain ratings and consistent organic traffic. You can find this information with SEO tools like Ahrefs.

Set up Google Alerts

Google Alerts allows you to monitor the web for specific keywords or subjects that are being published in articles, blogs, and pages. By setting up alerts for keywords like your business name or the services you offer, you will have the opportunity to reach out to the authors of other websites to ask for a link back to your site. This is typically done through hyperlinks added to the keywords.

Create Valuable, Unique and High-Quality Content

Asking for links and being a guest blogger isn’t the only method that will earn referrals from other websites. You can earn recognition by focusing on creating high-quality and unique content. Try not to worry about the quantity. Not every business has the type of marketing budget that McDonald’s and Coca-Cola has. Pumping out content isn’t going to be worth it if it sacrifices the quality. Instead, work with your budget and resources and figure out a schedule that works for you. Whether it’s daily, monthly, or quarterly, make sure the content that you put out there is something that will offer value to your target audience.

Engage & Share Online

When you create content for your website, be sure to publish and share it on your social media platforms, and other marketing channels. Be a part of the conversations that are happening online and keep an eye out for trending topics in your industry. Doing so allows you to better understand your audience, gives you industry insights, and can build your reputation towards being a thought leader and a brand that deserves recognition.
